Pinoy Food Channels On YouTube to Satisfy Your Cravings

Pinoy-Food-Channels

For those who love to cook, YouTube has been a great source of recipe videos and tips. And Pinoys are not far behind on the trend, as you can find many local creators posting about food and cooking. Here are some of the popular Pinoy food channels that you would want to visit on the video sharing site.

Pinoy food channel no. 1: Panlasang Pinoy

Panlasang Pinoy is one of the oldest Pinoy food channels on YouTube, launching in 2009. The channel is run by Vanjo Mirano, an information technology professional based in the United States. Mirano says in the channel’s About page that he created it as a way to showcase Filipino cuisine to the world. He adds that our local cuisine often feels underrated when put side by side with its more popular counterparts.

The channel currently has over 3.6 million subscribers and has amassed half a billion views since it has started. The most popular videos are those of familiar dishes but you will also find some unique dishes like this pinakbet with ube.

Additionally, Mirano does dishes from other countries but with a Filipino twist. You can also find the recipes in his official website, which even features plenty of cooking tips and resources.

One of the most distinct aspects of Panlasang Pinoy’s videos is Mirano’s narration. While he has been in the US for long enough, he still narrates his videos in straight Filipino. This adds to the feel of each tutorial. The channel presents its recipe videos in an overhead style reminiscent of popular international food channel Tasty. This is long before the latter popularized the style.

Pinoy food channel no. 2: Simpol

This is another great Pinoy food channel to subscribe to if you are looking for quick recipe tutorials. Simpol is hosted by Chef Mike “Tatung” Sarthou, who was also the resident chef of ABS CBN\s Umagang Kay Ganda. The channel’s name is a Filipinization of the word “simple”, alluding to its goal of presenting easy-to-follow cooking videos.

Simpol’s repertoire is a mix of local and foreign dishes. However, its most popular videos are its takes on popular fast food recipes like Max’s-style fried chicken and Chowking’s Chow Fan.

Aside from recipes, the channel features an assortment of cooking tips, including some handy ones on frying food. You will also find some short features on Filipino cuisine.

Simpol presents its recipe tutorials in a more traditional cooking show format, with Chef Tatung in front of the camera and going through each step. The channel has high production values, not surprising since the chef is also a professional host. Because of this and his fun hosting style, it has attracted nearly 18 million views.

Pinoy food channel no. 3: Erwan Heusaff

While he is known by most Filipinos as actress Anne Curtis’ husband, Erwan Heusaf is also a popular online personality on his own right. His personal YouTube channel currently has 2.5 million subscribers and has attracted 147 million views. The channel has also since grown from a personal recipe vlog to a full lifestyle content portal.

But like its early days, the main draw of Erwann’s channel is his home cooking videos. While there are foreign dishes that you would associate with a half-french guy like him, Erwann is also in touch with his Pinoy heritage. There are dozens of recipes showcasing his take on different Filipino dishes, as well as regional recipes that many might not be familiar with.

Aside from his cooking videos, Erwan also shares a lot of his knowledge and tips on cooking. You will even get his insights on Pinoy cuisine and culture. Outside of his home kitchen, the host features his travels around the country, exploring the various dishes of each province.

Pinoy food channel no. 4: Pinilakang Lakbay

While most of the Pinoy food channels that you have seen so far focus on the cooking of dishes, Pinilakang Lakbay gets to the next part: eating these dishes. OFW Benson Dulos started the channel in 2018 as a way to showcase Pinoy food and culture. Since then, it has attracted nearly 33 million views.

In each of his videos, Dulos does show the cooking part first just to tease the audience. Then he proceeds to enjoy the meal. It’s a mouth-watering experience as he takes you through the taste of each dish in the meal. But you will be more engrossed in the stories that he tells about himself and his travels.

Dulos also showcases his cooking skills in the standalone recipe videos he uploads. There are even videos dedicated to dishes you can make for a food business. Additionally, you get to watch some of Dulos’ outdoor adventures in Finland, where he is based.
