With the SEA Games opening in just a few days, traffic in Manila is expected to become more severe. To help motorists out, the Metro Manila Development Authority released several important reminders for motorists.

Stop and Go scheme

The MMDA announced the new reminders on November 26. To help ease the flow of traffic, the agency is implementing a stop and go scheme on select roads. In the scheme, traffic will be stopped whenever a SEA Games delegation passes the road. The traffic flow resumes once the delegation has gone through.

Traffic officials will implement the Stop and Go scheme mainly on both directions of EDSA, notably in the following key points.

Additionally, the following sections of the South Luzon Expressway Northbound road is included in the scheme.

The Stop and Go scheme will last for the entire duration of the SEA Games from November 30 to December 11.

SEA Games road closures and alternate routes

The MMDA has earlier announced the list of roads that will not be passable during the games. These are:

  • Adriatico Street: from President Quirino to Pablo Ocampo (Both ways)
  • Pablo Ocampo: From Taft Avenue to Adriatico (Westbound)

The agency advised motorists planning to cross these roads to take the following alternative routes:

  • If you are coming from Taft Avenue and planning to turn left at Adriatico, you can instead head straight towards Roxas Boulevard or Mabini Street.
  • For those planning to use the westbound lane of P. Ocampo coming from Taft, use Menlo Street from Donada.
  • If you are coming from Roxas Blvd. or FB Harrison heading eastbound to Pres. Quirino going through Adriatico, go straight to Taft Ave.

Traffic officials also warned motorists to expect heavy traffic near the event venues. If you plan on watching the SEA Games live, check out our guide for traveling to these places.
