Glittered for the Holidays

When better can you go gaga for sparkle but during Christmas or to celebrate the new year. Craft glitter is known to get everywhere and refuse to budge, we totally understand if you’re staying away from it. If you still want to get your glitter on, the best way is through cosmetics. Cosmetic glitter is fine and easy to clean up, compared to its craft counterpart. It’s also a great way to be festive without going over the top.

Going Glam

The items we’ve compiled below are easy and relatively inexpensive ways to add some glitziness to your Christmas party looks. They’re quite easy to use and you can almost assuredly find something that will suit you. Shall we?

Nail Polish

If you’re not used to wearing glittery things, nail polish is a great and easy way to start. It’s not daunting, only covers a small area, and is easy to remove if you decide you don’t like it. Can’t commit to having all fingertips glittered up? Ask for a glittery accent nail on each hand. This gives you more time to decide whether you like the look or not. To tie it into your Christmas look, go for festive colors such as red, silver, and gold.

Sparkle Eyeliner

Looking to amp up your Christmas makeup looks? Wearing sparkle eyeliner either on top of your regular eyeliner or on your crease will definitely glam up your look. It can even transform the shape and depth of your eyes when applied right. It’s also inexpensive, readily available online, and comes in a wide array of colors. For best results, search for “flare eyeliner”.

Shimmer Eyeshadow

Take your holiday look up another notch by amping up your eyeshadow. Shimmer shadow has micro glitter that will make your eyes pop without being too much for every day. If you’re more adventurous, you can use pressed glitter eyeshadows for a bolder look. Eyeshadows come in every imaginable color and many palettes have one or two for you to try. If you’re a shimmer shadow noob, just dab a bit onto the inner corners of your eyes and in the middle of your lids for a simple look that packs a punch.

Lip Gloss

Matte lipstick is classic and will always have a time and place.. Lip gloss has recently come back into fashion though and is a great way to amp up the flashiness of your look. If you want to keep wearing your regular lip color or favorite MLBB shade, there are clear or lightly tinted glosses you can use on top to add that sheen. If you’re raring to try something new, there are also opaque lip glosses that you can wear alone.

Body Glitter

If you don’t want to go full glam on your face, don’t worry: body glitter is a thing. You can get ultra shimmery ones for high shine, and there are also lightly glittered powders that will give you a subtle all-over glow. Choose a finely milled powder to ensure that it won’t feel too scratchy against your skin. You use this the same way you would use highlighter on your face, on the high points that you wish to draw attention to. A sweep across the collarbones and shoulder blades will definitely emphasize your assets.

Glitter Hair Products

Don’t want glitter against your skin? There’s glitter for your hair too! There are glittery hair waxes, pomades, and gels in the market. For a subtle sheen on your tresses, waxes and pomades are better. The glitter won’t show up unless the light hits your hair just right so it’s perfect for the more conservative. If you’d rather go all out with chunky glitter flakes in your hair, better to use gel formulations. Make sure to start with a small amount and just add more if you don’t have enough. Glitter can look unsightly on your scalp if overdone.

Loose Pigments

If the options above don’t give you enough glitter, THIS is for you. Loose glitter pigments often come in a tube or pot. Loose pigments need another product to mix with or adhere to. You can use them on your eyelids with a bit of concealer or foundation or mix a bit with liquid lipsticks for a flashy pout. Just a drop of mixing medium and you’ve got yourself some face or body paint. Glitter pigments come in all the colors of the rainbow and then some. If you want to sparkle, then this is what you need.

All Set?

We can’t blame you if you’re raring to try our suggestions above. If we’re being honest, we can’t wait to get all dolled up for the season too. We just might start wearing some lip gloss everyday to build up to bolder makeup when our Christmas party comes around. Share your holiday looks with us too — we’d love to see!
