Best Christmas Movies On Netflix To Binge Watch

There’s a reason why Christmas is considered the most beautiful time of the year. Aside from the cold breeze and all the twinkling lights, we get to celebrate this holiday together with our families and loved ones.

Do you have a family tradition that you always do during Christmas? Perhaps some of you cook grandma’s homemade special pie, or maybe you put up Christmas decorations together while drinking a hot cup of chocolate milk. Whatever it is, there could be a lot of activities that each family member could do in order to get close with each other. However, perhaps cozying up in front of a screen and watching a classic holiday film is the easiest one of them all and surely, the best way to go.

Luckily for us, Netflix has an array of Christmas films – classic and new – that we can all watch to our heart’s content. Are you ready? Here are some of our recommendations on the best Christmas movies on Netflix to watch this holiday season.

Home Alone & Home Alone 2: Lost in New York

Now, these are really considered the best Christmas movies on Netflix. It wouldn’t be surprising if all movie channels play Kevin McCallister’s shenanigans on the loop during the holidays.

As the title implies, the story of both films revolves around the McCallisters and their Christmas trips which always starts with them losing Kevin, their youngest child. Since Kevin often feels like his family doesn’t want him, he sees being home alone (Home Alone 1) – or getting lost in New York (Home Alone 2) – as a luxury vacation away from his family. Although Kevin later realizes that being away from his family has consequences especially when bad people go rampant around Kevin’s vicinity and it is only up to him to stop them.

The slapstick comedy these films bring would surely tickle your heart and make you realize that Christmas is indeed better spent with family instead of being home alone.

The Knight Before Christmas

If you’re looking for one of the best Netflix original Christmas movies that could make you laugh and make you swoon at the same time, then this film is for you!

Brooke is a kind science teacher who has already given up hope in finding her one true love and her happily ever after. This was bound to change though as Sir Cole, a medieval English knight, is magically transported by a sorceress to modern-day Ohio where he meets Brooke after she accidentally hits him with her car. Despite Sir Cole’s constant ramblings that he was a knight and that he had to fulfill his one true quest in order to get home, Brooke still decides to help him adjust to the modern way of living. In the end, however, Sir Cole would realize that maybe fulfilling his one true quest isn’t that important anymore if it meant that he was going to leave this world.

The mix of comedy from Sir Cole’s adjustment from medieval to modern times and the swoon-worthy moments between Brooke and Sir Cole would definitely make you feel things and make you wonder too as to where your very own knight in shining armor could be.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas

Going back to the classics lane, watching this green, furry creature who hates everyone in the town of Who-ville and the whole Christmas season, in general, is still hilarious and entertaining.

In the live-action film of Dr. Seuss’ book, we can finally see the Grinch’s backstory on why he decided to hate Christmas and eventually proceeded with his plan to ruin the holiday for the whole town of Who-ville.

Although the Grinch is almost always seen being grumpy and angry towards the Christmas season and everyone who celebrated it below Mount Crumpit, the moral lesson of this film will still astound you and help you realize that there is more to Christmas than just material things. Perhaps after watching this film, the Grinch in us would also disappear and we can finally enjoy Christmas with family and loved ones even without gifts and toys.

The Polar Express

A film about an adventure of a lifetime that would surely awaken your inner child and help you believe.

For children, Santa Claus has been a part of their lives for so long that there is no room for skepticism if he existed at all. One boy, however, has always doubted the existence of Father Christmas even when a train named the Polar Express magically arrives on his street on Christmas Eve. Still reluctant, the boy eventually hops on the train and is pulled into a journey towards the North Pole where he can finally see for himself if Santa Claus was indeed real.

If you like a film of self-discovery, wonder, and a quest to find the true spirit of Christmas, then The Polar Express is just the right one for you!

The Spiderwick Chronicles

This isn’t really a Christmas themed film, but the adventure and action in this film are too good to not be watched during the holidays.

The story is about a book containing information on fairies and other creatures written by Arthur Spiderwick. The book was hidden so that Mulgarath, a shape-shifting ogre, would not be able to use it for evil. Years later, Spiderwick’s estate was inherited and the new occupants’ children, Mallory and the twin sons Jared and Simon were able to discover the book and its secrets. Now, they are faced with a war against Mulgarath and his army of goblins and other creatures who want the book in order to gain Spiderwick’s knowledge.

Would they succeed though? This action-packed adventure film would surely keep you on the edge of your seat as you take this magical adventure with Jared and Simon.

These are just some of the best Christmas movies on Netflix that would surely get you into the Christmas spirit. Always remember though that any film is alright as long as it lifts your spirit and helps you get close to the people you love. There’s nothing better than bonding with your loved ones over some popcorn and chips while watching a heartwarming film during the holidays.
